ASPBAE plays leadership roles in global civil society networks advancing the right to education and lifelong learning.
These networks include the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE), which it co-founded, the Global Campaign for Education (GCE), and the UNESCO Collective Consultation of NGOs on Education 2030 (CCNGO-Education 2030).
ASPBAE has maintained strong relationships with the affiliated regional civil society networks to these formations, notably CLADE and CEAAL (Latin America), Arab Coalition for Education for All, ANCEFA (Africa), and the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA).
It also maintained strong ties with the constituent members of GCE, notably Education International (EI) and ActionAid International.
ASPBAE has been an active member in the global formations challenging education commercialisation and privatisation from a human rights perspective.
It is part of the international Privatisation in Education and Human Rights Consortium involving OSF, RESULTS, ActionAid International, GCE, the Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (GI-ESCR), the Right to Education project, among others. The Consortium is envisaged to offer a common front to counter the privatisation drive towards building a movement critical of the privatisation and commercialisation of education.
ASPBAE looks to expand its collaboration and work with the Tax and Education Alliance, especially its members in the Asia Pacific, and aims to partner with advocacy groups on debt in the Asia Pacific, notably through the Jubilee Debt Campaign which is supporting the Global Campaign for Education in its debt advocacy efforts.
ASPBAE will continue to engage with civil society networks active in tracking the SDG follow-up processes in the region and globally, such as the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relations with the UN (CONGO) where ASPBAE serves in its Regional Committee in the Asia Pacific (RCAP), the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship in Asia (ISEA), the Asia Civil Society Partnership for Sustainable Development (APSD), CIVICUS (global alliance for citizen participation), the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP), Bridge 4.7, and the Asia Development Alliance (ADA).
ASPBAE will continue to work closely with organisations of regional people’s movements through the ASEAN People’s Forum, ODA Asia Forum, the Pacific Island Association of NGOs (PIANGO), and the Asia Democratic Network, to name some.
ASPBAE continues to strengthen its cooperation with the Inter-Agency Network on Education in Emergencies (INEE) – especially its CSO members active in the Asia Pacific region – in its efforts to deepen capacities in education in emergencies work. It seeks to partner with civil society organisations and networks active in climate justice advocacy to support its work on climate change education and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
