STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS

invertedcomma.jpgWider linkages with other civil society networks and organisations fighting poverty, advancing social justice, gender equality, sustainable development and peace, and thereby securing stronger recognition of the critical role of education and learning in meeting all the SDGs.

ASPBAE has built strong strategic partnerships with other civil society organisations, intergovernmental organisations, and institutes through the years, fully aware that the achievement of its goals and objectives is best served by working in tandem and in partnership and solidarity with other similarly-motivated groups.

In 2017-2020, ASPBAE's work in this area will be pursued to –

  • Sustain and deepen existing partnerships with global and regional civil society networks, institutes, inter-governmental formations, and international bodies championing the right to education and lifelong learning, especially through SDG4 processes and frameworks.
  • Expand involvement with civil society formations and with other government agencies, international organisations, and institutions closely involved in the SDG follow-up processes, to ensure that SDG4-Education 2030 remains prominent in the global policy discourses on development and to better assert ASPBAE advocacies on SDG4.

ASPBAE is part of global civil society networks advancing the right to education and lifelong learning and has played leadership roles in these, notably: The International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) which it co-founded, the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) and the UNESCO Collective Consultation of NGOs on Education 20130 (CoNGO/Ed 2030).

ASPBAE maintains strong relationships with the affiliated regional civil society networks, notably the Latin American Campaign for the Right to Education(CLADE) and the Latin American and Caribbean Council for Popular Education (CEAAL), the Arab Coalition for Education for All (ACEA), the Africa Network Campaign for Education for All (ANCEFA), and the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA). It also maintains strong ties with the constituent members of GCE, notably Education International (EI) and Action Aid International.

ASPBAE’s longest standing partner in development cooperation is DVV International – a major collaborator of ASPBAE, especially in capacity building and advocacy for youth and adult education and lifelong learning.

ASPBAE started its strategic partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in 2017, enabling scaled up work advancing the right to basic education, youth leadership and constituency building and in advancing the SDG4 agenda within the wider SDGs.

ASPBAE has been an active member in the global formations emerging to challenge education commercialisation and privatisation from a human rights perspective. It is part of the international Privatisation in Education and Human Rights Consortium involving the Open Society Foundations, RESULTS, Action Aid International, GCE, the Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (GI-ESCR), the Right to Education project, among others.

ASPBAE sustains its partnerships and participation in intergovernmental and inter agency regional mechanisms and institutions like UN Girls Education Initiative (UNGEI), UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), UNESCO Paris, UNESCO Bangkok, UNESCO Institute of Statistics (USIS), Global Partnership for Education (GPE), Global Alliance for Literacy (GAL), SDG 8.7 Alliance, Global Citizenship Education Network, SEAMEO, SEAMEO CELL, ASEAN, SAARC, the Pacific Island Forum, and ASEM.

ASPBAE is a member of the Asia Pacific Regional CSO Engagement Mechanism (APRCEM) and the Education and Academia Stakeholder Group (EASG) of the Major Groups and Stakeholders – the main civil society mechanisms for involvement in the High level Political Forum (HLPF) processes of the SDGs.
